The COLORSTEEL® Awards recognise the exceptional use of COLORSTEEL® products, excellence in roofing & cladding installation and leading architectural design.
Celebrating the workmanship, meticulousness, passion and collaboration of roofers, designers, architects, builders and COLORSTEEL® rollforming partners. Elevating pride and professionalism in our industry. With over 150 entries, the 2023 COLORSTEEL® Awards judging panel saw a high calibre of workmanship, making the judging process extremely difficult. On Saturday the 7th of October, the industry came together at the Auckland Town Hall to celebrate the exceptional projects and people within New Zealand's roofing and architectural sector. Winners are announced below.
2023 COLORSTEEL® Supreme Roofer of the Year
Hartmut Reichelt
The COLORSTEEL® Supreme Roofer of the Year acknowledges roofers' significant contribution to our industry, selected from the winners of the three separate Roofer of the Year categories - Corrugate, Trapezoidal and Tray profiles.
Owner of Construction Connection and Consultancy Ltd, Hartmut Reichelt played a pivotal role in the construction of the dynamic home 'Kanuka Residence' with three different shaped hip roof forms, wall and roof cladding. Hartmut's collaboration with Hyndman Taylor Architects was described as magical, showcasing his skill, expertise, passion, and craftsmanship. His commitment to sharing knowledge, suggesting improvements and effective communication with the contracting team made the 'Kanuka Residence' a resounding success. His leadership qualities and contributions to the building industry are well deserving of recognition and celebration.
2023 COLORSTEEL® New Roofer of the Year
Liam Williams
Liam started with Prestige Plumbing & Roofing through a Gateway program from Matamata College at the age of 17. His level of attention to detail and can-do attitude led him to the Architectural side of Prestige. Now 19, his mentor Ben has taught him well, after two years of training, Liam ran his first Tray job with complete custom set-out cladding and various pan sizes to suit each elevation.
Liam's level of understanding of the Tray profile will allow him to excel within the architectural roofing world, and this is unlikely to be the last time he makes an appearance at the COLORSTEEL® Awards - watch this space for Liam again in the future.
2023 COLORSTEEL® Service to Roofing
Frank Thomas
Frank has dedicated over 50 years to the roofing industry through his company, The Roofing Specialists (RSL), a leading Waikato roofing and asbestos removal firm. He helped establish The Roofing Association of NZ (RANZ) and promoted education and upskilling in various roles. In 2019, he received a RANZ life membership, and he's now planning a smooth handover of RSL to the next generation. His contributions are highly valued across the industry, making him a very deserving recipient of the COLORSTEEL® Service to Roofing acknowledgement.
A massive congratulations to all Highly Commended recipients, Finalists and Winners of the 2023 COLORSTEEL® Awards. Recognition must also go to the esteemed judges - Ken Crosson, Lindley Naismith, Mark Bishop, Graham Moor, and Rod Newbold for their time and effort in the judging of the entries. Their expertise and dedication are essential in the awards program and the success of the event.
Following an amazing evening celebrating the exceptional work within the industry, it is now time to start thinking about entering the 2025 COLORSTEEL® Awards - sure to be another remarkable display of craftmanship from across the country utilising COLORSTEEL® products.
