What is the difference between ZINCALUME® and COLORSTEEL®?

ZINCALUME® coated steel was formulated to give a significantly longer service life than a galvanised coating. It is an alloy coating that's ideal for roofing and cladding.

COLORSTEEL® starts off as ZINCALUME® coated steel, which is then pre-treated, primed and painted to offer excellent colour retention and scratch resistance.

What warranty is available for commercial builds?

Warranty coverage for commercial projects can vary depending on the application, product selection and environmental conditions. Contact our team to confirm the right solution and warranty for your project.

Where can I find the full COLORSTEEL® colour range?

The colours shown on our website represent the primary COLORSTEEL® range. Additional colours and custom colour options are also available for selected projects. Contact our specifications team to learn more.

What is ACTIVATE® Technology?

ACTIVATE® Technology is a patent-protected, high-performance Aluminium, Zinc & Magnesium (AM) metallic coating system designed to deliver enhanced corrosion resistance and long-term durability in New Zealand conditions.

The addition of magnesium to the AM coating helps to slow the rate of corrosion and provides more effective, longer-lasting protection. This helps extend the corrosion-to-perforation lifespan of COLORSTEEL®, providing enhanced durability and protection over the life of the product.

What is the difference between ENDURA®, MAXX® and MAXAM®?

COLORSTEEL MAXAM® replaces both ENDURA® and MAXX® as a simplified single-product solution suitable for most New Zealand environments. Powered by ACTIVATE® Technology, MAXAM® delivers enhanced corrosion resistance and long-term durability across a wide range of applications.

What is the difference between 0.40 and 0.55 gauge roofing material?

This refers to the Base Metal Thickness (BMT) of a product. The New Zealand Building Code requires materials used for profiled steel roof cladding to have a minimum BMT of 0.40mm. For a more dent-resistant finish or requirements suited to your specific location, you may opt or need a higher BMT of 0.55mm.

Can COLORSTEEL® contribute to Green Star and Homestar?

Yes, under the Green Star rating tool, COLORSTEEL® can contribute to credits under both Credit 19A: Life Cycle Assessment and Credit 21: Sustainable Products. Under the Homestar rating tool, COLORSTEEL® can be awarded up to 2 points for the 'Non-timber wall cladding' and 'Non time roof cladding' material categories.

There's nothing quite like the real thing to ensure the right colour decision for a project. Show your clients an exact sample of their colour selections ahead of installation and utilise brochures to help explain the benefits of a genuine COLORSTEEL® solution versus alternative import options.

Sometimes it can be hard for homeowners to understand all the different factors that come with a new build or re-roof, so having support material on hand can help in those moments.
